It has been long time since we saw ram Gopal Varma the accomplishment of films worthy to take its name in him, considering its extraordinary history like director. Rather, it has been in the target of many jokes and critics by raising constantly with unworthy products. Indeed, the fact is that Aisha strongly dependent on the care and, therefore, comes off as the product only partly right as regards the content of history. All eager audience easy to predict the complete film and its climax, when just watching the first film of 10 minutes. We can say that, if policy makers would have more weight in its content than its design, the film could have been a milestone in the career of Sonam Kapoor.

Tere Bin Laden - First Look

During the development of Lamhaa in IIFA held recently in Sri Lanka, I had to ask the director Dholakia Rahul catch line of the film: "The Untold History of Kashmir. Obviously, I was curious. What was Dholakia tells us, viewers, had not been seen in movies before or read in newspapers or news channels? Dholakia gave a convincing answer, which justifies the capture line, but obviously do not reveal much about the film.

During my school days in Himachal Pradesh, a fellow student will not be long for annual leave in December, as all children usually do not. I have often wondered why. Milenge Milenge - Theatrical Trailer

In the current techno times, the easiest way to know how long the film is part of the decision-making process simply watch mobile phones used in the attacks. Different models in the hands of people who will give you a clear idea of how old the product is real. It is precisely the case of "Milenge Milenge", which was scheduled to be released far behind. Mani Ratnam directs its own version of a mythological epic poem many prayers, the Ramayana.That statement alone was sufficient to drastically increase the level of curiosity, both industrialized and non-public. But honestly, the ads and the music was put me in a problem. At one end, the film might be an abstract painting of a beautiful African species used in the soundtrack track and the other clearly gave strong signals with very interesting and implementation unfavorable.

Partho Ghosh has made some interesting films in the past. 100 days and Dalaal Agni Sakshi are three films that I remember the moment. But his new film Ek second ... Jo Zindagi Badal De makes you uncomfortable in your seat. Movies like 100 days and Agni Sakshi have specifically noted the value only because she had the courage to tell an interesting story on celluloid. Ek second ... Jo Zindagi Badal De is an interesting idea, but is struggling with a bad script, while the enforcement Partho is archaic.

The film is an experience of a group of children with their teacher at a campsite near the city. The film begins with children and the instructor will break camp and play, have fun when they have a bad surprise.

The film is a collection of events experienced by children and the instructor and the two henchmen who are trying to wrest the child from the group. Goons seem dangerous, but stupid. Some scenes in the movie makes no sense at all and seems forced. Sonali, a camp director, was expected to see a bit more fit, but acting comes naturally to her. The children have also done a fair job.

film music is decent, but could only disappear when outside the theater. However, peppy song shaan proves to be an exception. Background score the film lacks originality as well!

In general, film media. A little knowledge with a little extra motivation for children is the basic idea behind the film. Nothing unusual not to be missed from this!

                             Strong Chracters of Rajneeti

Raajneeti is a human drama, a complex which is exerted in order to obtain power and how the envelopes into greed and ruthless man and connivance. I recognize that it takes time for history to sink, but slowly and steadily, you get sucked into a world that is dark, dangerous and demonize. The dress can be white, but the acts are gray or black.

Raajneeti is not just a "Mahabharata", but "The Godfather". Although aware of "Mahabharata" or "The Godfather", one can not assume that modern games Pandavas and Kauravas would play Raajneeti. The story was changed continuously disassembled and serpentine manner and speed ... so you do not know what happens next. It keeps in constant awe of age. Ajay Devgn is sidelined in the second hour, but you must give the actor for the acceptance and approval of its part with absolute conviction. Nana Patekar is brilliant. Lines grow more acidic, with a smile that only a class player could have achieved. In fact, you can not imagine anyone else in this role. Katrina Kaif is first class. The first question that comes to mind is one minute film in October, for which this film was made. Who is the audience? Makers claim the film is dedicated to the martyrs of the massacre at 26/11, but the implementation is only an insult to those who took their lives on that black day.

The film tells Ajmal Kasab (Verma) and his journey from the LET training camp in Pakistan for his goal in India. He arrives at the Mumbai coast, with its nine other accomplices to spread terror in the fateful night of November 26, 2008. Kasab is cons Hemant Karkare (Homi Wadia) Tukarum Ombala (Ashok Samarth), Ashok Kamte (Amit Behler) Salaskar (Sudesh Berry) and several other law enforcement agencies. The rest of the film is what happens after KSAB made by the brave Ombala setting his life trying to stop it.

Green in every department, testing the patience, the film is a bad, bad production values, bad editing, bad description, and yes in the wrong direction. It'39;sad that such an important subject for a film about talent wasted money, who had money on the place to look for a movie like this. One can only imagine the drama of which were pain in real life, if they get a look at this stupid picture 26/11 cases.

Just avoid this one at any cost.

The bigger budget, more names, more hype, hype and Razzmatazz, plus the expectations of the film. Comets are some of the biggest names in business - Rakesh Roshan, Hrithik Roshan and Anurag Basu, to name a few - and the film, thus leading to this huge responsibility on their shoulders. You have to fly higher than the tubes supplied by the trio. Anything less is simply not done!

The big question is: Does the kites fly high? Let me hit the nail on the head: The movie has some wonderful moments and, of course, a star Hrithik Roshan to cast a spell, but it has many moments of weakness. In fact, comets may be a cult film, but his writing relies too heavily on cliches and formulas and things that, frankly, gives a key.

Kites are visually impressive and made a sweeping effect, but he hesitated in his department writing. The story bears a uncanny similarity K. Balachander's Ek Ke Liye Duuje, Tony Scott and Revenge Koyla own Rakesh Roshan. In addition, the story hardly moves in the first hour, but remain in the throat for the second hour. Harsh desert terrain of Mexico, a wounded man left a dead heat in the desert sun. This is J (Hrithik Roshan), a street-smart boy, carefree, young, and now a wanted man. The only thing that keeps alive a mission to find the love of his life, Natasha (Barbara Mori). A woman engaged to another man, but certainly intended J. woman who would become his life like lightning and changed forever.

Kites is a sleek and smooth, he described how in international festivals. Personally, I'm pretty sure, is to go beyond the diaspora, and cut the public still thinks that Bollywood is the usual song-n-dance routines only. The film is eclectic first hour, although the pace is slow and not much movement in history. But time after doses are correct, that will keep you hooked in places, slipping from time to time.

Kites is desi at heart, but also gives some steps that are considered risky by the standards of Bollywood. The lady spoke Spanish and policy makers have used subtitles for people to understand. This, frankly, could not go very well with the traditional audience. The second aspect that catches completely ignore the final part, that, surprisingly soon, will have its share of advocates and adversaries. Some love it, while some might argue, no!

But without revealing much, I confess that the end is a schematic at all. From Bollywood wants to play it safe all the time, most of the narrators generally abides by the rules of the game, but the finish is really exciting, and shaped by the love story at all costs.

Anurag Basu has proved its worth in the past, and although it can not be the most coherent script, it worked, there is no doubt that kites allows you to stay involved in the scene. Note the sequence when Hrithik fixed his eyes on Barbara for the first time. Or Kangana Ranaut intro bridge Nicholas Brown. Or final, of course.

But the writing could be tighter. Kangana has a track half-baked. Follow the culmination of Nicholas Brown seems appropriate. There is no mention of Kabir Bedi - the most influential man - after a point. The couple meets with the U.S. police record ridiculous. Weigh the film down, really.

Rajesh Roshan's music is strictly correct. The marker is not a patch on this combo Roshan (Rakesh and Rajesh Roshan) earlier works. However, Salim-Sulaiman score compliments the style and the composition of the sequences and appears as a result truly international. Bose Ayananka photography is splendid. Chase sequences are impressive, especially when the car after car crashes into pieces.

Hrithik is superb and it is the truth. Very few actors can rise above the script and Hrithik is one of them. It is the lifeline of this film. Barbara Mori is perfect for their part, but it seems very mature at the scene. However, the chemistry between Hrithik and Barbara is electrifying. Kangana is wasted. Kabir Bedi does a decent job. brother of Nicholas Brown and boyfriend of Barbara Kangana, is first class and adds a lot of freshness to the film.

Overall, the visual style and Dragons Hrithik Roshan as its asset, but the content leaves much to be desired. The film has generated tremendous curiosity, resulting in a large number in its first week. The announcement of the scale, the number of shows on each Cineplex and the absence of opposition movies help the film set new records in the first game, but the enormous costs on the other hand, will play a spoilsport.

Bal Hanuman 2 comes with a double shot action and excitement with demons even more dangerous and powerful to conquer. Full of adventure and action both innocent and full of jokes pleased that this little guy, the movie has everything a child wants to see.

The film is about how Bal Hanuman will conquer the demons who appear complicit in the form of vultures, elephants and crocodiles to create disturbances on Earth. At the same time, since his childhood, he does not know the value and strength of its power and a tendency to use at times. How the little master teacher that he abused his powers when he curses Rishi Muni him and how he gathers information about the universe of Lord sun forms the rest of the film.

Children with single targets, the film does not bother with much of the plot. Director Pankaj Sharma, who already gave us an animated version of Bal Ganesh Bal Ganesh 2, this time get some exciting new adventure in baby Hanuman in his childhood. This is the first 3D animated version, but the director Pankaj Sharma has done a very commendable job. Bumm Bumm Bole Exclusive Promo

When you decide to change a well-known Iranian director Majid Majidi, Children Of Heaven (1997), which was nominated for an Academy Award for best foreign film, you're a great responsibility. People are required to compare the two films. It's inevitable, is not it?

For those who have watched the Iranian film, you understand that Bumm Bumm Bole is a patch that movie. And those who have not watched the Iranian film and would Bumm Bumm Bole as an isolated incident, Bumm Bumm Bole still disappointing.

So what's the problem with this movie? He is no doubt that Priyadarshan is one of the best storytellers around, but if you saw some of his latest film, you may've realized they were lying on an item. It is one of the main reasons why Bumm Bumm Bole suffering.

Cause II: The final film was the best part of the company when the viewer to wear home at the end of the film, besides several wonderful moments, while leaving the room. In this case, the final a total disappointment. This is all over the face, blatant promotion of a brand of shoes and an energy drink that actually steals the movie of his innocence. It made me think as reel after reel of Gurinder Chadha It's A Wonderful Afterlife unspooled. We (Bollywood reviewers / critics) are extremely difficult on films made on the fold. We are going hammer and tongs after the filmmakers as they had committed a crime that can not be exempted. We tend to ridiculous movie, its makers, actors in these movies ... In fact, almost all associated with these films.

Buzz up! What about using the same criteria for films judged by names that command enormous respect in the West? We forgive them, for the most part. We even close their eyes and ignore the shortcomings because the West has them in high esteem. The thought often crosses your mind: Should we not look like fools if they were fully identified, even if they turn with pure trash?

I will not mince my words. With It's A Wonderful Afterlife famous filmmaker Gurinder Chadha reached a new low. He actually I wonder, was Bend It Like Beckham a fluke? It's A Wonderful Afterlife is so vague and hollow he makes his last movie Bride & Prejudice is regarded by many as its weakest film, starring an epic report.

last word? Afterlife is a wonderful had everything going for it. Let us not forget that plants are not necessarily large a delicious meal. This curry is Gurinder Chadha's just not acceptable!

Mrs. Sethi (Shabana Azmi), a widow, can not tolerate the idea of his daughter alone and miserable. Overall, this is a sad experience, not good by any standards!

"Badmaash Company" - Theatrical Trailer

Novice actor turned director Parmeet Sethi made a surprising tribute to my show a couple of days ago. He said he had paid the entire script, with dialogue, six days too. I was afraid at first, but not when Badmaash Company does not give you the feeling that hastened the work or the rookie writer-director, who has proposed to launch his first film, preforms went incomplete.

March provides enough to satisfy every need, but not every man's greed. But as I said earlier, the second hour, tends to be repetitive and the minutes penultimate 25-odd are not strictly not.

Each player puts his best foot forward in Badmaash Company. Shahid is right again. It would be wrong to say that one of his best works. Add to blow the lid on the restaurant and also another sequence, when he meets a pregnant woman Anushka. It is confidence personified in these sequences.

Anushka is a revelation. She looks beautiful, its performance is Livewire and chemistry with Shahid is electrifying. Chase begins with a high-octane chase and what follows are several twists-n-turns, before the jigsaw puzzle is solved. But the question is, does Chase provide those adrenaline-pumping moments? Nope, it doesn't! The problem is, the writing relies too heavily on the tried-n-tested stuff, which robs this thriller of those thrilling moments.

Final word? Chase is akin to soda. Opens with a lot of fizz, but falls flat thereafter!

Sohail [Anuuj Saxena] is a man on the run. DIG Ranveer [Rajesh Khattar] has vested interest in getting to the bottom of a murder in which Sohail is involved. Insp. Siddharth [Samir Kochhar] is the right hand of the DIG, who is monitoring Sohail's actions.

Enter Nupur [Udita Goswami], who is involved with Sohail closely. The other players of this chase are Surabhee [Tarina Patel], Sohail's love interest and industrialist Mr. Khanna [Aditya Raj Kapoor], for whom money is the solution of all problems. Also, there is Anthony D'Costa [Gulshan Grover], who is also in search for the truth.

The hunt for Sohail and search for truth takes us through the streets of Mumbai. The truth has the potential of blowing up the entire political system apart. Who is the victim and who is the criminal?

The sole aspect you carry home after watching Chase are the high-octane chase sequences, especially the one at the very start of the film. Otherwise, Chase harps on the age-old plot where an innocent man is framed for a murder he hasn't committed, the corrupt cops being hand-in-glove with an industrialist, an undercover cop who doubles up as a seductress and the journo-girlfriend who goes that extra mile to save her boyfriend. Besides, there's a Live sting operation, the mandatory songs and some steamy moments and a stylish video towards the end.

It is said that you are innocent till proven guilty, but what happens when the law is interested in punishing the accused without verifying his innocence or guilt? What happens when the law upholder are ruthless and have no scruples?

Sajid Khan sounded very confident in his interviews before the release of “Housefull”. He even went on to predict the success of his second project which eventually raised the expectations level of the viewers to a great extent. And with the IPL season coming to an end, the movie was projected to be the first biggie to finish off the lean period. But unfortunately the final product presented before the audience does not fulfill all the promises made by its makers completely. It’s a mixed bag of comic moments blended with some emotional stuff which entertains only in bits and parts and ends up in a terrible manner.

The world's most unlucky man - Aarush (Akshay Kumar) believes his bad luck will only vanish if he finds true love. He marries Devika (Jiah) but finds out she is in love with a non-Indian. An attempt to suicide leads to him being rescued by Sandy (Deepika) and soon the two falls in love. But to win her hand, he has to win over her always suspicious brother, played by Arjun Rampal.

On the other hand, Aarush's friend Bob (Ritesh) is just as unlucky as him. He is married to Hetal (Lara), who suffers from a strained relationship with her father (Boman Irani). How everything falls into place is what this comedy of errors is all about.

Boman Irani sleepwalking while others sing Papa Jag Jayega, Akshay Kumar slapping a monkey and the monkey slapping him back, a tiger making a short appearance as a pet, references to homosexuality typical Dostana - Kal Ho Na Ho style, actors break dancing after a dose of electric shock, actors slapping each other.. and so many other such over-the-top slapstick sequences are all that Housefull is about. And to director Sajid Khan's credit, he's handled it all pretty well.

Story, sense, meaning... you won't find any of it in Housefull. Yet the film works, majorly because the situations are funny and the performances are top notch. Akshay Kumar is in super form, the actor perfects the act of a loser with a restrained performance. Deshmukh is good and shares good chemistry with Akshay. Boman gets his comic timing right like always. Arjun Rampal is wooden. Chunky Pandey has short - funny role and he does well.

The girls have nothing much to show except skin. Jiah Khan has just one song and a couple of lines to mouth. Deepika Padukone looks great in bikini with those long legs and awesomely sexy tummy. Lara Dutta's clothes seem to be getting shorter with each film.

The music is okay. The locals the film has been shot in (London, Italy) are good.

Amusingly, out of its entire star-cast the most entertaining cameo comes from Chunky Pandey as an Italian Hotel owner. I seriously found his few scenes in the first half as the most refreshing and funny moments of the entire movie. And I wish he was given more footage along with Akshay in the later part too.

Kuchh Kariye marks the debut of singer Sukhwinder Singh as an actor. As someone who has been an ardent admirer of his singing, I felt pained to see him cast in a film that has an apology of a script and non-existent direction. As for Sukhwinder's acting skills, the less said the better. He is expressionless, flaunts his physique like Salman Khan and wears garish outfits.

Sukhwinder, a musician, is in love with Shriya. They leave their hometown for better prospects. They meet Vikrum Kumar and Rufy Khan, who have also arrived in Mumbai to realise their dreams. They decide to make a film to bring about a change in society. But a terror attack changes everything.

It's difficult to categorise Kuchh Kariye in any particular genre. The story changes so rapidly and so haphazardly that you're clueless about the on-screen goings-on. In fact, not one department in the film is worth highlighting. The acting too touches a new low.

On the whole, Kuchh Kariye is a big yawn.

Bird Idol offer more than what's being offered round-the-clock on television vis-a-vis animation shows? Will its target audience [the kids] prefer the animation film over popular animation shows on TV? The answer to both the questions is, unfortunately, negative.

Bird Idol creates a fantasy world where the birds of Mumbai are as human as the people who inhabit it. They go to school, watch TV, go out on dates and yes, even watch reality shows
, especially the musical show known for making stars overnight - Bird Idol.

However, as of now, the birds still play bird music, full of chirps, tweets and the like. A group of four friends [Hummi, Surili, Chidi and Tuktuk] introduce a sound never heard before in the bird world - human music. The music is a hit among the birds and it catapults Hummi's group to stardom overnight.

But the judges, old-time establishment musicians, begin to worry. What will happen to them? They hatch a plan to sabotage Hummi and his music before it's too late. Will they succeed? And what does the introduction of human music mean to the bird world?

The animation quality is top notch and the dubbing is in sync. But the problem is that the viewer doesn't carry the characters home, like I did when I watched Hanuman.

On the whole, Bird Idol is watchable in parts, but the lack of awareness will make the effort go unnoticed.

A movie “Apartment” proves to be a very lazy thriller which lacks the much needed surprising punches at the right places. Actually, the most exciting part of a story based on schizophrenia is the past of its victim. But here the director takes you into the past of Neetu Chandra in the second half and comes back easily with no shocking happenings or secrets to be revealed to the viewers. This particular part remains the weakest sequence of the movie in absence of any emotional depth and compassion. After the first hour, the plot becomes very predictable and one keeps waiting for something surprising to unfold till the climax but nothing happens of that sort on the screen. And the movie finishes off on a tiring note, just like many other below average inspired products served to us in the past.
Out of the entire cast, only Neetu Chandra is able to deliver a fairly good performance where she tries to convey a lot through her expressive eyes. But still, she over-reacts in some scenes and also her reasons for becoming a victim child, remain unclear & unmoving. Tanushree is natural in her revealing outfits but she seriously needs to look after her weight. Rohit as usual is over energetic and doesn’t have much to but Anupam Kher is calm and cool in his short role of a film lyricist.
Technically the film is pretty routine, with not so great production values and simple camerawork. Although the director could have done without any songs in the movie, still he ropes in Bappa Lahiri to give him all the unwanted tracks which simply fail to impress from any angle.
On the whole, there are far better thrillers still remaining to be watched in the World Cinema and therefore this lousy copied Apartment should be better left empty. So, unless you feel an urgent need to watch it, just save your money for its DVD and give it a miss.

The film is embellished with a superior cast and each actor, irrespective of the length of the role, appears straight out of life. Seema Biswas, Siddharth Jadhav [as Speed Breaker], Veena Jamkar [as Manju], Shashank Shende [as Anna], Sachin Khedekar, Vinay Apte, Ganesh Yadav, Satish Kaushik, Kashmira Shah, Sameer Dharmadhikari and Vineet Singh [as Mohan] put their best foot forward. Each one is memorable in his/her role. But the show stopper is Karan Patel undoubtedly. It's a sensational performance, which will make people sit up and notice this supremely talented actor.

On the whole, City Of Gold is a heart-wrenching and violent journey that has the stamp of a gifted storyteller, Mahesh Manjrekar. Recommended!

Gashmeer Mahajani aspires to be a chef. He arrives in Mumbai, after his bride-to-be elopes from the mandap. He falls in love with Twinkle Patel, but the problem is, she loves someone else [Hiten Paintal], who, incidentally, turns out to be the guy Gashmeer's bride-to-be had eloped with. In the end, expectedly, Twinkle realises that her heart beats for Gashmeer.

If the story is as old as the hills, the execution of the subject is equally old-fashioned. Sincethe writing is so inferior, neither does the love story, nor the forced comedy track manage to catch your attention.

Gashmeer is energetic and confident, but needs to work on his styling. Twinkle is raw and it shows. Hiten Paintal has just one expression throughout. Ranjeet, Om Katare and Tiku Talsania are adequate.

On the whole, Muskurake Dekh Zara has no chances absolutely.

However, performances remain the only merit of “Paathshala”, with Nana Patekar very calmly playing the willing principal and Shahid Kapoor enacting the revolutionary teacher with elegance. Nana could have left an even better impact on the viewers only if his last speech had been given much importance by the writers. Shahid’s otherwise brilliant performance also fails to shine brightly in absence of a well defined character in the script. His teacher act also reminds you of the one recently seen in his last dud “Chance Pe Dance”. Still he looks very good and likable in his role of a Music cum English teacher. Ayesha glows on the screen with her cute smile. Sushant Singh, Sushmita Mukherjee and Anjana Srivastave are just fine but Saurabh Shukla plays it loud as the manager. The movie also has some actors in the supporting cast who can now be spotted in some famous tele-serials. For instance, just look out for the talented “Anandi” from the serial “Balika Vadhu” standing among the school kids.

Paathshaala brings back those dark memories because the film encapsulates these two incidents on celluloid. The problem with the film is, it gets very real at times, but gets farcical as well. The participation of kids in media activities doesn't have a hammer-strong impact. The chilly portion and the director capturing it on camera, or the press photographer munching samosa as the kids get ready with a pyramid, looks unreal, despite being identifiable incidents. Even the climax is confusing. What is Nana saying in the concluding reels lacks precision.

Director Milind Ukey has filmed some scenes expertly, but, as mentioned above, the film lacks the power to make you do a serious introspection.

Nana is very much in sync with his character. Ayesha is a complete natural, as always. Amongst the plethora of teachers and students, Sushant Singh does well, Sushmita Mukherjee is serviceable and Saurabh Shukla is so effective, you start hating him for his repulsive attitude.

Debutante director Milind Gadagkar uses every trick in the book to make Phoonk 2 work - night shots, secluded bungalow, eerie silence, captivating sound design and zany camera angles. Gadagkar does everything right, but conveniently forgets that any film, irrespective of its genre, works if the story is captivating and moves constantly. In this case, the story just doesn't move in the first hour, except towards the interval point.

The post-interval portions show some movement, but a number of questions remain unanswered. What do Amit Sadh and Neeru see in the jungles that they start running helter-skelter? Also, if the spirit could enter a body [in this case, the wife's], where does it disappear when the wife falls off the terrace towards the end? Ideally, you expect the spirit to come face to face and battle it out with the already cornered Sudeep and his two kids. But the spirit doesn't!

Gadagkar had a brilliant idea, but he fails to translate it well on celluloid. To make matters worse, the film just doesn't scare you one bit. The sound design is right, while the movement of the camera reminds you so much of RGV-directed movies.

Sudeep does a fairly okay job. Amruta Khanvilkar is expressive enough. The kids, Ahsaas and the kid playing her brother - are efficient. Neeru and Amit Sadh don't get much scope. Ashwini Kalsekar is hardly there. Ganesh Yadav, Zakir Hussain and Jeeva make brief appearances. Anu Ansari is okay.

Prince can rely only on his razor sharp instincts to salvage himself. The web of deception spins and Prince gets even more entangled. Nothing and no one can be trusted. Every day he meets a new girl claiming to be Maya, Every cop and criminal in the country is out for his blood. He doesn't remember where he has hidden the Heist. He doesn't know which side of the law he is on. His life is at stake. The future of mankind is at stake. Prince has no one but himself to trust.

Vivek Oberoi doesn’t pass off as an action hero and never knocks you off your seat with his stunts, though some of them are admittedly edgy. The girls are just eye-candies. Cinematography is good, music bad, dialogues worst. There’s a deliberate twist and turn thrown in every reel to keep you from dozing off. But by the time the film climaxes, you sincerely hope for a Prince-like memory erasure.

There’s more fun to be had when you learn that Prince’s memory has actually been stolen and stored on a chip in a coin which he must find to remember something so important as to threaten the humankind.

Performance wise, Riteish Deshmukh si efficient. He enacts comic as well as emotional and romantic scenes very well. Jacqueline is easy on the eyes. Vishal Malhotra is excellent. Sonal Sehgal is impressive. Ruslaan Mumtaaz is perfect.

On the whole, Jaane Kahan Se Aayi Hai is nicely made comic love story. The film has beautiful moments. The film mainly targets the youth. Good one to wacth.

Overall Jaane Kahan Se Aayi Hai is a light-hearted entertainer targeted at the youth. It is a thoroughly entertaining film. Positives: 1. Milap Zaveri's direction is admireable. 2. Sajid-Wajid's music is pleasant. 3. Attar Singh Saini's cinematography is perfect. Negatives: 1. The story gets very old-fashioned in second half. 2. Technically the film is bit weak.

The cameos by Farah Khan and Akshay Kumar come as a whiff of fresh air, but some moments of chuckles and cackles don’t make an entertaining movie.

Performance wise, Rahul Bose is terrific this time. He leaves an impression on viewers minds. Chigusa is decent. Raima is perfect for her role. Moushmi Chatterjee, as Bose's aunt, brings light on screen every time she appears.

On the Whole, Aparna successfully creates a world that's so simple and relatable with such a compelling story. The purity and simplicity of this film wins over. The film has the potential for dedicated place audience anywhere.

Overall The Japanese Wife is a decent emotional journey that keeps you hooked for its pure love story. Positives: 1. Aparna Sen's direction is mind blowing. 2. There’s hardly anything to write about performances. Maradona’s rawness suits his character well but Bipasha disappoints big time. Her dialogue delivery and her facial expressions have a range too narrow for her character. However, her laughable costumes and overdone make-up do add some humour to the film.

In a nutshell, ‘Pankh’ is a flight best avoided.

Desperately trying to appear profounder, deeper, subtler, darker, edgier and disturbing than it actually is, director Sudipto Chattopadhyay’s movie Pankh is an abstract, delirious flight into the psyche of a man less ordinary.

The story revolves around a 21-year-old guy named Jerry (Maradona Rebello) who used to be a child actor named Baby Kusum. As a kid he was forced by his ambitious mother (Lilette Dubey) to play girl roles and grew up to be a psychologically scarred young man confused about his sexual identity. On top of it he has to live with constant taunts and sexual exploitation from people he comes in touch with.

Performance wise, Rishi Kapoor, Rekha and Hema Malini have proved that Old is Gold. They are the lifeline of the film. Luv Sinha conveys a rawness and innocence that go well with his character. His dialogue delivery and body language need fine-tuning. Ferena is a decent actor, but needs to work on her makeup and wardrobe.

On the whole, Sadiyaan is a film about relationships. In fact, the film is a treat to watch the two highly talented actresses share screen space after a really long gap. Nice work by Raj Kanwar.

Overall Sadiyaan is an emotional drama narrated in an old-fashioned style. Positives: 1. Mind blowing performances by Rishi, Rekha and Hema Malini. 2. Dialogues by Javed Siddiqui are brilliant. 3. Performances are good but a special mention should be made of Boman Irani and Minissha Lamba. The latter plays a spunky village girl who doesn’t wear burqa and wants to complete her education before tying the knot. Rajit Kapoor adds his own underplayed brand of humour as a cop.

A film with its heart in the right place, ‘Well Done Abba’ is sprinkled with a few funny moments but overall it fails to offer anything refreshingly entertaining or enlightening.

Director Shyam Benegal’s Well Done Abba takes a satirical, tongue-in-cheek look at the system teeming with corruption through the eyes of a man who decides to avail a government loan to dig a well in his field.

Hum Tum Aur Ghost has skilled performances, starting with Arshad, who's likable and believable. A complete natural, this is among his finest works. It's a new Dia you get to watch in this film. Not only does she look ethereal, but is exceptional in the acting department as well. Boman is tremendous, especially in the sequence when he's meeting his wife again. Sandhya Mridul doesn't get much to do. Zehra Naqvi is convincing. Shernaz Patel is wasted. Ditto for Tinnu Anand. Javed Sheikh is as usual. Asawari Joshi is perfect for her part.

On the whole, Hum Tum Aur Ghost is a terrible waste of a terrific idea. Disappointing!

Arshad Warsi - who has been credited with the story of Hum Tum Aur Ghost - has denied that the film is inspired by Ghost Town. Yet, there're some similarities and that could be coincidental. So far, so good!

Kartik (Farhaan Akhtar) is a typical loser: he's frustrated with his job, the girl he likes doesn't even acknowledge his existence, and his confidence is on an all-time low. One good thing is, he knows his life is going nowhere. Bad thing is, he doesn't know what to do about it.

This is Farhan Akhtar's third film as an actor and it must be said that he takes giant strides when it comes to acting. The story throws several challenges at him and fortunately, he emerges trumps in the most difficult moments. This is, by far, his best work.

Deepika Padukone looks bewitching and acts natural throughout. Ram Kapoor is fantastic. Why don't we see him so frequently on the big screen? Shifaali Shah is excellent. Vivan Bhatena is good. Tarana, Vipin Sharma and Yatin Karyekar are serviceable.

On the whole, Karthik Calling Karthik is a decent product with an unconvincing conclusion. Watch it for the wonderful performances of Farhan and Deepika, if you have to. Caters to the youth in metros mainly.

Teen Patti is verbose, inconsistently written and pretentious, but it also has an intriguing story, an unusual gripping soundtrack and an interesting ensemble cast. I suggest you watch it and figure out for yourself if this is your game. Of course, be prepared to hear characters seriously discussing stuff such as Nirvana and the human brain.

The earth provides enough to satisfy every man's need, but not every man's greed. That's so true! Let's face it, money is the root of all evil. When we have more, it is never enough. This is exactly what Leena Yadav's Teen Patti tells you. Teen Patti is not only about gambling on table, but all those gambles that we take in our life. Bearing an uncanny resemblance to the Hollywood film 21, Teen Patti is akin to a roller coaster ride; if there are highs, expect the lows too.

Bachchan plays the role of a mathematician with remarkable ease. One cannot imagine anyone else in this character other than Bachchan. Especially noteworthy are the sequences between Bachchan and Sir Ben. Madhavan is excellent. The actor displays the grey shades most convincingly. The film introduces four new talents and each is confidence personified. Siddharth, Shraddha and Dhruv get maximum footage and they stand out. Vaibhav has tremendous screen presence, but his role lacks meat.

Raima Sen is alright. Barry John is first-rate. Anjan Srivastava is good. Mahesh Manjrekar is effective. Saira Mohan is hardly there. Sir Ben Kingsley is an amazing actor and expectedly, he's brilliant here. It's a treat to watch these two magicians - Sir Ben and Bachchan - perform on screen. On the whole, Teen Patti is a fresh concept, made well, but limits itself to the intelligentsia and big city audiences mainly.

The culmination to the story is interesting and it's an end I haven't seen in Bollywood before. Also, what's interesting is that the film doesn't feature the hero as squeaky clean. He's got a past and his end is justified too. The songs [Shamir Tandon] are strictly okay and the non-promotion of songs makes it worse. Cinematography [Ramji] is alright. The sound design [Parikshit Lalvani] is excellent. That goes for the background score too.

Shreyas pitches in a believable performance. Sadaa does well and manages to hold your attention. Sneha Ullal doesn't get very many lines to deliver, but she stays with you. Rehan Khan gets minimal scope. Chunky Pandey does well. On the whole, Click should appeal to the youth, especially those who love horror films.

Tabu is a pleasure to watch. She's natural and it must be said that it gets difficult to move your eyes when she's on screen. Sharman, again, is likable and gets it right. Vatsal does fairly well. Yuvika doesn't get much scope. Ayub Khan is passable. Himani Shivpuri and Suhasini Mulay are as usual. Upasna Singh is loud. On the whole, Toh Baat Pakki has a few interesting moments, but not enough to keep you hooked. It will have to rely on a strong word of mouth, especially from family audiences, to stay afloat.

A lot of present-day directors seem inspired by Hrishikesh Mukherjee and Basu Chatterjee's movies. The veterans told simple stories in the most simplistic manner. Director Kedarh Shinde, one presumes, also seems inspired by their master works and attempts to narrate a story that's identifiable and at the same time, dipped in humour. But Toh Baat Pakki is not as invigorating as one expects it to be. The film has some wonderful moments, some old-world charm, but the humour, at several points, falls flat. Especially towards the penultimate portions. Final word? It's a half-baked fare!

My name is Khan bears all the emotionally manipulative elements that one can expect from a Karan Johar film but some somehow manages even to nosedive into the realm of the absurd. Take the sub plot of a hurricane ravaged African American town that the hero saves and top it up with the appearance of the American president. Make that two president’s. ‘Yes. We Khan!’

Shahrukh Khan has moments where he seems to have stretched himself as an actor bringing to Rizwan a certain vulnerability that is uncharacteristic of Khan in recent roles. Yet this is not enough to hold together a film where the protagonist makes no real journey. Rizwan knows right from the start where his character will end up. Kajol looks beautiful but comes accross as unnnatural and her emotional outburts are sadly shrill and screamy.
Yet, there are some great moments in the film; like when Rizwan is taught by his doting mother (Zareena Wahab) ) that one's religion does not differentiate him from another. The only difference between people is that there are good people and there are bad people.
The supporting cast performs well. Besides Zareena Wahab's awesome screen mother debut there is Sonya Jehan (last seen in Akbar Khans Taj Mahal) who plays the part of Rizwaan's sympathetic sister in law with grace. Jimmy Shergill as Rizwan’s jealous brother pitches in a controlled effort and Navneet Nishan brings some genuine laughs.
While the subject matter seems good intentioned and the story does attempt to push the envelope, the outcome of My Name is Khan is disappointing. Packaged overtly like Forest Gump’s ‘box of chocolates’, the myriad web of characters and sub plots suffocate under too many issues (Autism, Minority, 9/11, Hurricanes). Maybe if the writers had stuck to one or two issues and fleshed them out sincerely, My Name is Khan might have struck a deeper chord.

The story hits off in a North Mumbai ghetto and cuts frequently between the 70’s, the 80’s and 1992- when the communal riots break out in Mumbai. Chandan Arora’s ‘Striker’ is dark and original cinema but seems somewhat lost in translation.
A lower middle class boy from Malvani, Surya’s (Siddharth) childhood is marred by an episode where on losing a carom bet, his elder brother, Chandrakant (Anoop Soni) is beaten up by local goon Jaleel (Aditya Pancholi). Chandra stops playing the game but he secretly coaches the young Surya, who plays truant from school to pursue the game and become a champion.
As a young man, Surya is conned of all his money by a Dubai employment agency making him an angry youth on the loose. Surya’s childhood buddy Zaid (Ankur Vikal), a cocaine addict who works for the feared Jaleel, re introduces a 'desperate for money' Surya to Jaleel and Surya is forced to play the game for Jaleel’s betting den. The fiercely independent Surya refuses to be controlled by Jaleel and the two find themselves at loggerheads. When the communal riots break out, Jaleel takes on a more sinister and bloody role, and Surya suddenly finds himself embroiled in the mess way deeper than he or his family can afford to be.
Chandan Arora captures a terrific atmosphere, deftly recreating the Mumbai of the 1980’s and bringing forth several sincere performances. P.S.Vinod’s evocative lighting and camerawork play an important part in the telling of this unusual tale and the carom sequences are slickly cut together bringing forth to celluloid a somewhat unsung sport. Aditya Panscholi in a career-reprising role is scary as the twisted Jaleel but the real villain of the story is its weak screenplay. Using long-winded tracks to make a small point and adding multiple characters that appear and disappear, the story seems confused and too long for its two hour play.
The brooding Siddharth who made an impact with Rang De Basanti brings a refreshing earnestness to his character but sadly plays the part angry and shouting through most of the film. One often wonders during the narration what Surya’s motives could be as they don’t seem compelling enough for him to be driven to play the game, then to stop playing it, to want to take off to Dubai and then to play the game again.
Ankur Vakil (Slumdog Millionaire) is a good performer, playing the junkie thug Zaid who’s only redeeming factor is his loyalty to his childhood friend Surya. Seema Biswas delivers a competent performance as Surya’s mother but seems unchallenged by her role. Anupam Kher plays a sincere cop trying hard to broker peace during communal tension and refrains from the usual clichés that one can expect from a Muslim Mumbai cop in films.
Inspite of the high strung drama played out by the angry young Surya and the rest of the cast, the carrom matches have very little dramatic effect on the film. The game doesn’t really have much to do with the resolution of the story and this leaves you disappointed and frankly, a little carom ‘bored’.
Yet, the power of the story is strong and the honesty of the film shines through the sagging screenplay. The leading man is not a 2D hero and comes across as a real human being. His silent romance with the burkha clad neighbor Noorie, that is abruptly halted by her moving away, brings a loveable shade to the intense Siddharth. Delivering a heartfelt message and underlined with some beautiful music pieces by an ensemble of music directors including Vishal Bharadwaj, Chandan Arora’s ‘Striker’ pockets the queen but sadly misses a deserving cover.

Writer-director Amit Rai explains his point of view, but the screenplay could've been firm for a stronger impact. Otherwise, the director has succeeded in extracting wonderful performances from the principal cast. Paresh Rawal excels in this film. This is amongst his finest works. Om Puri is equally competent, although the length of his role is limited. Pawan Malhotra is efficient, as always. Javed Sheikh is good. The remaining actors enact their parts very well. On the whole, Road To Sangam is mainly for connoisseurs of cinema and also for the festival circuit.

One look at the promos of Road To Sangam and you realize that this isn't one of those films you watch every week. Road To Sangam, in fact, pricks your conscience and mirrors a reality. Wars have been fought and are still being fought in the name of religion. Road To Sangam tries to seek answers to the burning issue and in the process, also talks of partition and the Muslims in present-day India. Made with honest intentions, this one's targeted at connoisseurs of cinema.

Every actor in Ishqiya delivers a sparkling performance! Naseeruddin Shah is superb as a romantic. He is matchless in the sequence when he learns the truth about Vidya and Arshad. Arshad packs in a bravura performance yet again. Post Munnabhai films, Arshad should be liked in this one the maximum. Vidya continues to surprise. It's a dynamic performance undoubtedly. PAA and Ishqiya are two landmarks in her career.

The actors enacting the role of Jijaji, the kidnapped victim and Vidya's husband are all perfect. The child, who interacts with Arshad, is natural. In fact, every performance in Ishqiya is worthy of mention.

On the whole, Ishqiya is definitely worth a watch. The film has a riveting plot, great performances, soulful music
, an absorbing story and skilful direction to make the viewer fall in ishq with it. It should appeal to the hardcore masses as also the multiplex junta.

The movie has its own drawbacks as there are very few relief moments in its narration, becomes a little slow in the second half and the basic plot also resembles to Madhur Bhandarkar’s “Corporate”. But it’s unarguably more thought provoking and relevant in the current scenario. Ram Gopal Verma is there visible in the entire film and impresses you the most in the scenes where Paresh Rawal is interacting with his silent mother, Amitabh is explaining the irrelevant difference between a Hindu and a Muslim, Sudeep trying to cope up with the extreme pressure of being successful, his suicide scene and the well written climax where the truth prevails in the end.

Ram Gopal Varma is itching to tell a new story in his movies. You may garland him for his efforts or loathe him if you feel letdown, but you need to hand it to him for picking up stories that defy stereotype.

On the whole, Rann is truly a well-made film. No two opinions on that. The film should be patronised by viewers of serious, sensible cinema. Recommended!

The story told is about Pindaris, a group of tribals, who were true to their word, and who preferred death to betrayal. It's their fight to unite India, to fight the British who ruled then. A very interesting plot thought of by Salman, who plays VEER. The film also has interesting twists even though 'Boy meets girl from enemy camp' remains the central theme. It moves away from the staid formula of parents opposing and lovers uniting against all odds.

Set in the 19th century, this period drama is no classic epic, but it has the trappings to keep you glued to your seat. Yes, there are loopholes in the screenplay and script and some silly moments as well, but once you see the brave attempt by the makers you cannot but laud it.

Lead actor Rishi Bhutani has a strong built and a fine presence on the screen. He is good at action but still needs to work hard on his face expressions and dancing skills. He tries hard to talk with his staring eyes but falls short of making the desired impact. However, the boy has got all the required elements to prove his untapped talent in his forthcoming films. The girl playing his love interest, Disha Pandey and her brother enacted by Krishan Khatra both prove themselves as newcomers and have a long way to go in their acting careers. Music has a very limited scope in this tense thriller, but still Sachin Gupta presents a good song “Maa Tera Jaisa” in the movie, as required by its subject. The Background score on the other hand shows all the hard-work gone into it and fills the silence remarkably.

In all, “Bolo Raam” is a suspense thriller with an interesting plot not told in an equally interesting style. It is partially good as far as the subject is concerned, but could be much better with a more engrossing treatment and a different mystery in the climax.

The story is simple but the end, when it unravels, will have you believing in love even more.

The performances are just perfect for their parts. Rajat Kapoor persuasively plays the glib-tongued flirt. Vinay Pathak shows spontaneity in his comic timing and gets the best lines. For a pleasant change, Dalip Tahil breaks his stereotype to play a light-hearted character. So is the case with Navneet Nishan who thankfully doesn’t ham and is likeable as the ignoramus high-society woman. It’s good to know the charming Anu Menon beyond her Lola Kutty image. Iravati Harshe is flawless. Neha Dhupia is decent. Ranvir Shorey and Makrand Deshpande are merely used as complimentary add-ons.

Though not as exceptionally hilarious as Bheja Fry or as deeply poignant as Dasvidaniya, Raat Gayi Baat Gayi (from the Rajat Kapoor – Vinay Pathak camp) is entertaining in its own small-n-smart way.

Raat Gayi Baat Gayi is not everyone’s cup of tea – rather glass of wine. But then again it’s not targeted towards teetotalers of cinema. This one night stand is worth indulging for some wild-wacky-wicked fun.

Indian cricket team’s captain Ravi Indulkar(Ravi Kapoor) gets lured by the bookie lord Shobhan’s (Zakir Hussain) huge bribe during the World Cup game against Pakistan in 2007. Ravi along with his 4 team mates - Rajpal, Hiten, Irfan and Balwinder ends up throwing the match away resulting in India’s loss. They are however later exposed by a journalist which leads to the Indian Cricket Board ousting them all for 4 years from cricket.Ravi ’s girlfriend, Soha (Manisha) dumps him and he also faces his father’s death. But Indian team’s cricketing coach (Suresh Oberoi) gives one more chance to the black listedRavi and his 4 other banned team mates. Its then an India v/s Pakistan final and the end is everyone’s guess.

Debutante writer-director Ravi Kapoor may've borrowed from real-life, but several portions seem unpalatable. Like, for instance, the ease with which the captain of the Indian cricket team and even the umpire interact with underworld dons while the final match is in progress seems bizarre.

Talking of acting, Ravi Kapoor has screen presence, but needs to work on his acting skills. Prem Chopra, Suresh Oberoi and Zakir Hussain are passable. On the whole, World Cupp 2011 is a weak fare

3 Idiots belongs to Aamir Khan. Yes, it does, but also to R. Madhavan, Sharman Joshi, Boman Irani, Kareena Kapoor and Omi, the entrant in Hindi movies, who delivers an equally sterling performance. The film would be incomplete without any of these characters.

The length of Kareena's role may not be as much as Aamir, Madhavan and Sharman, but she registers a strong impact nonetheless. Omi is excellent and the viewers are sure to love his acidic tongue and gestures in the movie. Mona Singh doesn't get much scope. Jaaved Jaffery is competent. Pareekshit Sahani is decent.

On the whole, 3 Idiots easily ranks amongst Aamir, Raj Kumar Hirani and Vidhu Vinod Chopra's finest films. Do yourself and your family a favour: Watch 3 Idiots. It's emotional, it's entertaining, it's enlightening. The film has tremendous youth appeal and feel-good factor to work in a big way.

Cameron came up with a lot of original ideas for this film, but the story was not one of them. Although it was well put together, clean, and everything played out like clock-work, there was no originality to it. As everyone realized as they were walking out of the theater, the film is Dances with Wolves but with blue cat-like aliens. It’s every video game you’ve ever played, ever steamy-action novel you’ve ever read, every plot line you’ve seen before in a big budget film. Is it well told? Absolutely! But with all the time and money Cameron put into it, I would expect him to tell an old story well.

Paraplegic war veteran, Jake Sully is brought to another planet called Pandora in place of his brother with the promise of getting his legs back if he helps the government on a mission. Pandora is inhabited by a primitive race called the Na’vi and Jake is sent in to learn their ways so that he can help relocate them and the humans can take over.

If nothing else this is a visual masterpiece and is meant to be seen in IMAX 3-D theaters. It will take you on a ride and blow you away. If you want to avoid some of the problems with it, just make sure to turn your brain off upon arrival and let your senses lead you.

Rocket Singh - Salesman Of The Year may be based on a simpleton's life, but the viewer gets a hang of things only towards the second hour. The entire first hour is devoted to establishing the characters and also getting used to the way sales persons go about their business.

Shazahn Padamsee who makes her debut has the talent to come through. However, she has to work hard on her dialogue delivery and body language. Ditto Gauahar Khan who too makes her debut. Prem Chopra as Ranbir's grandfather finally gets a role of substance, suited to his age and he does a wonderful job. A complete shift from the crass acts he has been made to do of late. The Sales Manager shines through, as well as the guy who assembles computers. Both characters are cleverly crafted.

Salesman Of The Year is more of a documentary on the life of a salesman. Lack of music, romance and entertainment, coupled with zilch hype, will go against the film. A colossal disappointment!

Yes, Abhishek is his Paa. Yes, it's a rare father-son-son-father story. Yes, I think the makers should also consider putting a proposal to making PAA tax free. Also every paa should take his family for this movie.

R Balakrishnan (aka R Balki) has tackled a very complex subject and has brought out the beauty of relationships in a very forceful manner without even one relationship in the movie going over the top. Be it the relationship between Vidya and Auro; Auro and his Bum, Auro and his friends or even Amol Arte (Abhishek Bachchan) and his dad (Paresh Rawal). Though centered around Auro and his disorder, Balki manages to draw all relationships to the fore.

Himesh has grown as an actor and that reflects in certain difficult moments of the film. Shenaz is natural. In fact, she gets it right this time. Sonal acts well, but her character is not well defined. Paresh Rawal's track looks forced. Zakir Hussain is strictly okay. Rajesh Khattar is good. On the whole, Radio just doesn't work... It's complicated!

Eighty percent of the movie is shot showing R J Vivan (Himesh) in the Radio Mirchi Studios. All they could have done was pick up a hit segment from their own radio station. Considering there was no genius in the plot, they could have upped the USP of their most famous RJ, the very eccentric but lovable, Jeeturaj.

As for the story, Vivan is an RJ working with Radio Mirchi. He has just divorced his wife Pooja. Shanaya enters his life quite by accident and that�s where things get complicated.

This so called comedy flick by Priyadarshan had a sad presentation with a lot of confusion. The first half of the movie was very boring but had some interesting scenes in the later half. There were many characters in the movie so it lacks clarity. After watching the trailer one would feel that it will be full of humor but it rather sounded meaningless at times.

If you want to have some time pass then go and give it a try, but if you are seriously looking for something good then don’t break your head by going for this film.

It's really sad because they had one of the best actresses in Bollywood playing the lead in Kareena Kapoor. They also had Salman Khan, a top draw for distributors across the globe. But the intensity of the romance between Salman and Kareena is wasted away by novice twist, which takes the sting out of the tale.

ALL THE BEST is a situational comedy. Veer (Fardeen Khan) needs extra pocket money from his stepbrother, Dharam (Sanjay Dutt), who lives in London. He needs the money to support his rock band. Prem Chopra (Ajay Devgan), his best friend who is married to Jhanvi (Bipasha Basu), hits on an idea. He tells Veer to inform Dharam that he is married. Vidya (Mugdha Godse) is Veer's girlfriend. Everything moves on smoothly for this gang until they take a loan from Tobu (Johnny Lever) to enter a car race. They lose the race, and have to repay the Rs 5 lakh loan along with the Rs 5 lakh, which Tobu wagered on them winning the race. They decide to rent out Veer's bungalow. Just then, they get a call from Dharam who is in Goa for a couple of hours. He decides to drop in home.

It's a laugh riot all the way. The background score keeps pace with the comedy, the music is peppy while the dialogues have weight. There's also action aplenty.

Its thumbs, toes and bottoms up for Devgan and director Rohit Shetty.

In real life, if you feel your colleague is far more superior to you in intelligence, talent, charisma, efficiency, chances are you might feel the heat. Jealousy, generally, stems from there. In the process, the best of relations get strained. London Dreams, directed by Vipul Shah, talks of two musicians, thick pals actually, and how jealousy drives a wedge in their friendship.

Let's clear a few myths before discussing the positive and negative factors of this film. London Dreams is not Baiju Bawra. London Dreams is not Rock On!!, Abhimaan, Yaarana or Saajan either [a section of the industry wants us to believe that]. The truth is, London Dreams borrows from Milos Forman's brilliant film Amadeus [1984], which was based on Salieri and Mozart's life. In fact, Suneel Darshan too had made a film based on Amadeus called Shakalaka Boom Boom [2007; Bobby Deol, Upen Patel].

London Dreams is a complete departure from Vipul Shah's earlier outings, Aankhen, Waqt Namastey London and Singh is Kinng [produced by Vipul, directed by Anees Bazmee]. This film is about relationships and tends to get very real and intense, in the post-interval portions specifically. The scale of London Dreams is gigantic and the execution of concerts [it's about a band] sweeps you off your feet.

In terms of execution, it wouldn't be erroneous to state that London Dreams is amongst Vipul Shah's most accomplished works to date. Also, it boasts of incredible performances by Salman Khan and Ajay Devgn. But there are hiccups too and it's these deficiencies that bog the film down!

They were childhood friends. But they had little in common except their family's connection with music. While Arjun's [Ajay Devgn] life was consumed by a passionate drive to get on stage and realize his grandfather's unfulfilled dream, Mannu [Salman Khan] was content with remaining a child at heart with no higher ambition than enjoying the good things in life.

As Arjun forges a band with Zoheb [Rannvijay Singh], Wasim [Aditya Roy Kapur] and Priya [Asin], a music enthusiast from a conservative South Indian family, far away in Punjab, music becomes a survival tool for Mannu, who takes to playing in wedding bands in his village.

Arjun gets Mannu to London and makes him a part of the band, but soon realizes he's created the biggest threat and obstacle to his own ambitions.

Mannu, with his inherent musical gift, becomes an instant darling of the crowds. Arjun's unbearable pangs of jealously and insecurity only worsen when Mannu also unwittingly woos and wins his secret love, Priya. As he battles his inner demons, Arjun slowly devises a sinister plan to destroy his best friend.

It takes time to get into Ajay's world [its Ajay who's narrating the story here]. The film moves back and forth and it's only when the two buddies, now adults, meet that you realize where the story is headed. The first hour depicts the two extreme characters - Ajay, who's an introvert and who cannot think of anything but his goal and Salman, a happy-go-lucky guy, laidback and fun-loving, least focused.

The narrative has some interesting moments in the first hour, but the actual story unravels only towards the second half. The first half, frankly, only sets things up for the explosive drama that is to follow. The wheels start moving when Ajay plays a vicious game and hatches a conspiracy to ruin his buddy's career.

It's the second hour that does the trick. You can't help but carry several sequences in your heart, even after you've made an exit from the auditorium...

* Note the scene when Salman makes four different tunes from the original tune created by Ajay.

* Note the scene when Ajay meets an inebriated Salman and professes revenge, while Salman is completely clueless about Ajay's sinister plans.

* Note the scene when the band arrives in London after a 3-city concert and they're received by aggressive mediapersons.

But there're roadblocks too. Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy's music is a downer. London Dreams is about a rock band, about music, about concerts and the music had to be the soul of the film. Unfortunately, it's not! The songs have been filmed in the most energetic fashion, but how one wishes its music was one of the strengths of the film.

Also, the film could've concluded when the two friends re-unite at the station. Adding one more song thereafter only dilutes the impact of the emotionally correct sequence that has just been witnessed. Besides, the song in question hasn't been promoted either, so it only comes across as an aberration.

Prior to that, Ajay's outburst at the end of the concert is far from convincing. The film has a real feel, real characters and real situations, but the outburst looks unreal and is one of the drawbacks, from the writing point of view. It's just not convincing!

Besides, Ajay's childhood character is shown fleeing from the airport and making it big in a foreign land [London], without any support whatsoever. It's unpalatable! Vipul Shah has handled this intricate subject well, but the writing could've been tighter. Sejal Shah's cinematography is super. Brownie points for capturing the concerts brilliantly. Salim-Sulaiman's background score matches international standards.

Both Salman and Ajay vie for top honours. Salman has a role that the junta would take to instantly and the actor too endears himself to the viewers. He's stupendous. When it comes to displaying intensity on screen, very few can live up to the standards set by Ajay. To state that he packs in a power-packed performance would be an understatement. They, in fact, compliment each other wonderfully well.

Asin is admirable and pairs off very well with Salman. She is sure to have a new name after this film - Chennai Express [that's how Salman addresses her affectionately, all through the film]. Om Puri has a brief role. Aditya Roy Kapur is very good and registers an impact. Rannvijay Singh doesn't get much to do, except throw nasty looks at Salman. Manoj Pahwa provides some funny moments. Brinda Parekh is okay.

On the whole, London Dreams has superb performances from its principal cast and several emotionally-charged sequences as its two trump cards. But its biggest drawback is its climax and also the music, which is the weakest link of the movie. At the box-office, the film should appeal more to the multiplex audience than the masses. Business at big centres, especially at metros, should be better, but mini-metros and towns will be a contrast.

Most stories sound interesting on paper or when narrated in 10/15 minutes flat. But when you watch the full-blown cinematic version, you realize why most Hindi films
fall flat on their face. Sujoy Ghosh's Aladin promises the moon, but what you get is a mere flicker. This fantasy had the trappings to transport you to fantasyland, but… Seriously, Sujoy could've run his imagination wild and come up with a film that would've made the child in you jump, scream and clap with glee. But 15/20 minutes into the film and you realize that Aladin is merely a visual spectacle. A film that lacks soul!

Buzz up!

After having watched Aladin, I too desire three wishes
...

* Wish 1: Henceforth, actors shouldn't ask for scripts before they sign on the dotted line;

* Wish 2: Producers should act more responsibly. They shouldn't be mere moneybags, but have creative control too;

* Wish 3: Directors and writers should stop taking the intelligent viewer for granted. Will a genie appear and fulfil my wishes? I doubt!

Aladin Chatterjee [Riteish Deshmukh] lives in the city of Khwaish, an orphan who has been bullied since childhood by Kasim [Sahil Khan] and his gang. But his life changes when Jasmine [Jacqueline Fernandez] gives him a magic lamp because it lets loose the genie Genius [Amitabh Bachchan].

Desperate to grant him three wishes and seek the end of his contract with the Magic Lamp, Genius makes Aladin's life difficult until the real threat looms on the horizon: the ex-genie Ringmaster [Sanjay Dutt]. Why does Ringmaster want to kill Aladin? What is the dark secret about Aladin's past that Genius is carrying?

Let's give the credit where it's due. Aladin starts with a bang, with the initial portions holding a lot of promise. But no sooner does the genie appears, he breaks into a song and you realize that Aladin is no different from those mundane films churned out week after week. Sadly, Aladin only slides downwards after this point. Sure, there're some interesting moments, but you can actually count those sequences.

The problem is not with the story, but the screenplay [also penned by Sujoy Ghosh]. It rests on absurdities. Okay, one expects absurdities in a fantasy, you can be pardoned for it, but at least they should have the power to keep you hooked. In this case, they don't!

You can't overlook two major flaws in the writing...

* One, Amitabh refrains from revealing the past to Riteish, till Sanjay Dutt arrives on the scene and spills the beans.

* Two, the flashback portion - which resulted in Riteish's parents losing their lives - is haphazard. It's not easy to comprehend.

Also, the entire track, when Amitabh loses his powers and becomes an ordinary mortal, looks gimmicky. At the same time, it looks weird when Amitabh fights an entire army of Sanju's henchmen in the end. It gets very formulaic at this point. Not just that, even the climax is ridiculous.

Sujoy Ghosh's screenplay is bad, to put it bluntly. Given the kind of stars and budget at his disposal, the director should've come up with a slick entertainer, but Aladin comes across as a feeble clone of a poor Hollywood film. Like his last outing Home Delivery, this one too is high on gloss, but low on content.

The visual effects are excellent at places, but tacky at times. Vishal-Shekhar's music is strictly okay. However, too many songs in the initial reels act as roadblocks. The cinematography is top notch.

Aladin belongs to Riteish, who's easy on the eyes. The best part is, he looks the character and enacts it without going overboard. He's at his natural best here. Surprisingly, Amitabh Bachchan is over the top this time, which puts you off after a point. Sanjay Dutt has two standard expressions from start to end. Jacqueline Fernandez gets no scope, but she looks gorgeous nonetheless.

Ratna Pathak Shah is wasted. Ditto for Victor Banerjee. And what is a wonderful actor like Mita Vashisht doing in this film? Saahil Khan and Arif Zakaria are okay. On the whole, Aladin is a terrible waste of a terrific opportunity. Hugely disappointing!

Raj Kumar Santoshi has changed lanes. Known for intense, hard-hitting movies [with the sole exception of Andaz Apna Apna], Santoshi now attempts a rom-com in Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani, his new endeavour. That's something we all know by now, right? But not many of us know that Santoshi is equally at home handling a comedy. And Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani proves it.

If you're attempting a rom-com, you need to get a few things right... One, the romance should be livewire. Ditto for the chemistry between the on-screen pair. Two, the film should make you laugh. As simple as that!

In Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani, the romantic moments are endearing. Most importantly, the on-screen chemistry is electrifying. Ranbir and Katrina look great together!

I've often said that comedy is serious business and the audience has moved over from banana peel humour in movies. The comedy in Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani - though it borders on absurdity - is funny in most parts. Sure, there're times when you feel that the humour looks forced [climax fight especially], but you don't grudge it since Santoshi's intentions are crystal clear from Scene 1 onwards: Entertainment ke liye kuch bhi karega.

Another factor that goes in its favour is Pritam's music, who belts out a couple of lilting tracks.

On the flip side, the film could've done with a fresh plotline. When you talk of 'Ghazab Kahani', it has to be ghazab by all means. It shouldn't fall prey to predictability, but the second hour succumbs to mediocrity occasionally.

Yet, despite the blemishes, Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani is a full-on entertainer. One thing is for sure, you'd fall in prem with Prem and his antics. An ideal date movie that should connect with the youth.

Prem's [Ranbir Kapoor] fundas in life were very simple - be happy, make others happy. A case of mistaken identity leads Prem to almost kidnap Jenny [Katrina Kaif], who was brought up by indifferent and uncaring foster parents. Prem falls in love with Jenny, but realizes gradually that Jenny is in love with someone else [Upen Patel], the son of a conniving politician [Govind Namdeo]. Prem decides to sacrifice his love and get the lovers married.

In the first sequence, Santoshi makes it loud and clear that Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani is very unlike his previous ventures; this one harbours on illogical situations. Right from the time Ranbir sets his eyes on Katrina [the yellow outfit episode], the film is a roller coaster ride.

A few sequences entertain you thoroughly. Sample these: Katrina slaps Ranbir when he stammers as well. She feels he's imitating her; Ranbir's sequence in the church; Salman Khan's cameo; the love-hate relationship that Ranbir and his father [Darshan Jariwala] share; the sequence at the party; the interval point when Ranbir falls on the ground literally... the first hour of the film simply rocks!

But the second hour makes you a little grumpy. The third angle of the triangle [Upen Patel] isn't convincing, while his father's [Govind Namdeo] track is beaten to death. Even the villain [Zakir Hussain] is a sore point.

Watching the second hour makes you feel that the film may've had a longer running time and in order to bring down the length, a number of scenes must've been chopped off, which, in turn, must've resulted in continuity lapses. For instance, Katrina's kidnap by the villains looks too sudden. When and how did it occur?

Yet, there're two sequences in this hour which are remarkable and which should bring the house down. One, when Ranbir wears Katrina's top to hide her presence in the house and the climax fight, when Katrina mistakenly bangs Ranbir a couple of times.

Directorially, Santoshi proves the naysayers wrong and bounces back with a film that the youth would relate to. You can't write off the maker and Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani proves it. Pritam's music has 'Hit' written all over it. S. Thiru's cinematography is first-rate.

Ranbir Kapoor is the next big thing and Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani proves it yet again. He's charismatic, emotes exceptionally well and tickles your funny bone without making faces. It's a fantastic performance all the way. Katrina Kaif continues to surprise. She surprised you in NEW YORK. She surprises you again in this film. She scores in both emotional and light scenes. Also, Ranbir and Katrina make a wonderful on-screen couple.

Darshan Jariwala is exceptional. Smita Jaykar is very good. Upen Patel is decent. Govind Namdeo is getting typecast. Zakir Hussain is fair. Navneet Nishan is alright.

On the whole, Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani entertains majorly. At the box-office, the fantastic pre-release campaign coupled with the terrific chemistry between Ranbir and Katrina, excellent music by Pritam and tremendous appeal for youth should ensure a big start for the film at the ticket window. The business prospects seem excellent, thus ensuring handsome returns for its investors.

Madhur Bhandarkar is synonymous with thought-provoking, hard-hitting films. Right from Chandni Bar to Fashion, the expert storyteller has made movies that hold tremendous shock-value. In turn, Madhur has cultivated a rich fan-base for his films.
With Jail, Madhur not only makes you visit a prison, but also makes you peep into the psyche of a prisoner. In the recent past, Sriram Raghavan's Ek Hasina Thi [2004; Saif Ali Khan, Urmila Matondkar] and Nazim Rizvi's Undertrial [2007; Rajpal Yadav] narrated the travails and anguish of innocents who were falsely implicated in a case. Besides, Nagesh Kukunoor's Teen Deewarein [2003; Naseeruddin Shah, Jackie Shroff, Nagesh Kukunoor] too narrated the story of three convicts. But Jail is different from the above-named films.

Besides watching a thought-provoking story on celluloid, one has also come to expect incredible performances in a Madhur Bhandarkar movie. And Jail too is embellished with superb performances from its key actors.

Jail transports you to a hitherto unknown world that most of us haven't seen and if this is its USP, it's also something that might go against it. Irrespective of how strong its merits are, a section of moviegoers [read families/kids], who generally tilt towards feel-good/sunshine/entertainment-filled cinema, might skip this film due to its dry [and at times depressing] theme.

In a nutshell, Jail mirrors a reality in true Madhur Bhandarkar style. It's hard-hitting, it's compelling, it's thought-provoking. The efficient storyteller has the courage to speak a new language in every film and for that very reason, Jail should be on your agenda.

Parag Dixit [Neil Nitin Mukesh] is living a dream life -- a great job and a loving girlfriend [Mugdha Godse]. However, things take an ugly turn when, after a series of unfortunate events, he suddenly wakes up in Jail. Parag is perplexed. The only salvation he finds is in Nawab [Manoj Bajpai], a convict, who believes that Parag is innocent.

Soon, Parag is left with a choice, to either live a life with hordes of broken hearts and shattered souls amidst the prison walls or hope to see freedom some day.

Jail involves you from the very start. The inmates, their crimes, their individual stories… you get drawn into a world that's very real. So real that you feel it's happening right in front of your eyes.

Madhur has a knack of narrating stories and he narrates the story of Parag Dixit with razor-edge sharpness. Besides, Jail also enlightens you of the legal process, which also acts as an eye-opener.

At the same time, the legal procedures and also the behavioural pattern of the inmates tend to get repetitive after a point and that's when you start feeling restless. Nonetheless, the post-interval has some interesting twists-n-turns, like the convicts' escape from the police van; prior to that Neil and Manoj exchanging stares before Neil perches himself in the van; Neil getting thrown in a dark cell, spending the next few days in solitary confinement; a convict using the garbage van as the means to escape; another convict realising that his wife is now a cop's mistress. Also, the climax is touching and moves you.

Madhur hits the right note yet again. Madhur, Manoj Tyagi and Anuradha Tiwari's script involves you in most parts. Raghuvir Shekhawat's dialogues are true to life. There's no scope for music in a film like Jail, but the three songs are smartly integrated in the storyline. Kalpesh Bhandarkar's cinematography is top notch. Special mention must be made of Nitin Chandrakant Desai's prison set, where the film is entirely shot.

Not only does Neil Nitin Mukesh deliver his finest performance to date, but the performance would easily rank amongst the finest this year. He conveys the pathos and helplessness that this character demands with amazing understanding. He deserves all praise for his extra-ordinary portrayal.

Manoj Bajpai pitches in a memorable performance. In fact, the supremely talented actor is in form after a long, long time. He's subdued all through, which only goes to prove that he knows the craft so well. Mugdha Godse underplays her part beautifully. Also, she carries the non-glam look well.

Aarya Babbar is fantastic. This film should make people sit and notice this young actor. Chetan Pandit is first-rate. Rahul Singh is excellent, especially in the sequence when he confronts his wife. The actor who plays the part of Joe D'Souza is effective.

On the whole, Jail is a well-made film from an expert storyteller. At the box-office, the film will appeal to those with an appetite for hard-hitting, realistic fares, but its clash with Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani will affect its business to an extent.
